That is really a cool site that you found, Creator. It is nice to know that someone out there will teach people Reiki for free. I once had a toothache that had been bothering me for 10 days, and I went to a Reiki Master for help. She took away all of the pain in about 20 minutes, and it never came back. I went ahead and got the root canal done, and got a crown put on that tooth. I have never had a problem with it since. I sure wish I still knew how to get in contact with her. She was the best healer that I ever met, and I could use the help getting over my back pain now.

Yes, that site is rather interesting... Still, I've already seen some people, who teach Reiki for free, so the idea isn't absolutely new. Most of all, there are some more original offers, like initiation in Reiki through reading of book. I think, this is normal process for any tradition: way from esoterical to exoterical.
By the way, the most interesting thing is that a lot of this initiations really work. But if you want to get some kind of non-traditional initiation, you must have preliminary occult experance. In other way, you won't be able to take it.
So, in my opinion, classic initiation can be GIVEN and non-traditional one can be only TAKEN.

I agree that some previous occult experience would be extremely helpful in learning Reiki without a teacher. It would give one an advantage that the non-adept wouldn't have. But I still think that anyone who wants to learn reiki should, regardless whether they have previous occult experience or not.

Maybe you're right, and maybe - not... Yes, I think, that if smb really wants to get some initiation, he (or she)'ll be able to get it... But does everyone know his own wishes? Does everyone know, what he really want? I think, the situation isn't like this. That's why such occult groups like pythagorean have a big number of levels and ordeals for their pupils. But the biggest problem is another one. What's the initiation in some tradition? Technically, it is the tuning in the "wind of tradition"... To get initiation means to get some tradition. And're you sure, that those one, who learns without any teacher will be able to get tradition? To feel it? To enter into it? Really, it can take many years. I know it by my own expereance.
