It will be interesting for me to know, what do our english-speaking colleagues think about war in South Osetia? Why did it start? Who is wrong and who is right?  |

What I think about it? It's rather easy for me. We have an UN-document (1999); by this document Russia is a peacekeeper in South Ossetia; Georgia & S.O. must keep peace in this region while they won't solve their problems in diplomatic method; if S.O. or Georgia will begin to try to use force, Russia just MUST to stop the war and protect those one, who was attacked.
Several days ago Georgia attacked S.O. More than 2000 people was killed; most of them were casual people, not soldiers. The capital of S.O. was comleatly destroyed. Georgean soldiers kill Ossetian women and children (as ossetians themselves say). I think, it's just genocide.
So, I think, Russian Federation in this situation has only one solution: as a peacekeeper, it must use force to stop an aggressor. I think, that all problems in that region must be solved only by peaceful settlement.

Russia DID NOT ATTACK Georgia! 07.08.2008 at 22:00 Georgia has attacked South Ossetia. At 3:30 08.08.2008 tanks of the Georgian armies have entered into city Tskhinvali. Artillery bombardment all the day long proceeded, fights with use of tanks and heavy combat material, both against ossetic armies, and against peace inhabitants were conducted. 1400 civil people already were lost. The Russian peacemakers have arrived to South Ossetia in the evening 08.08.2008 for settlement of the conflict and prompting of the world in republic and protection of the Russian citizens living on territory of South Ossetia. Georgia has attacked South Ossetia on eve of Olympiad, it is top of cruelty and cynicism. How horrible what the people of Osetia are going through! I hope that the Russian army can get to where they are soon to start helping them! I will have them in my prayers from now on. I think that it is a good thing that the Russians are using force to stop the Georgians from keeping up this military force. What in the world are the Georgians thinking they can gain anyway?  |
