Does anyone know any good ways to do spiritual cleansings, to bring goodness and deflect negativity from oneself? I use sage a lot. I light a bundle of sage, and allow the smoke from it to surround any one who needs a cleansing and pray while I burn it. I also allow the smoke to fill up my house, knowing that it is cleansing it of any negativity or negative spirits that may be near me or within the house. This is mostly a Native American Indian tradition, and has been used for thousands of years for this purpose. This is my favorite way to do spiritual cleansings, although I know of a few others as well. Any one have anything they like to do?

I know a good bath that works well for calming the spirit, and cleansing it. It also is extremely relaxing, and detoxifying. You get a cup of Epsom salts, 1/2 a cup of baking soda, a heaping teaspoon of ginger, and if you want you can add some lavender buds in a homemade teabag sort of thing, for extra cleansing. Make the bath as hot as you can stand it, and soak in it for at least 20 minutes. Pray or visualize all of the negativity that is connected to you or within you to leave your body and go into the bathwater. Then as the bathwater is draining, visualize that all of the negativity that had surrounded you before going down the drain with it. It is a miracle bath, and even my non-believer old man believes in this bath. That is how good it works!

The Santaria/Lukumi people have many baths that they take in order for spiritual cleansings to take place. I don't know the recipes for these baths, but I can tell you that they have worked really well for healing purposes for me. Any Santero or Santera can teach you some of the ingredients for them.

I usually use sage and/or salt, or clean running water. I like to keep it simple.
Of course, if you know there's something particular that you need to get rid of, you can get more specific. Baths are good for that.

Good old fashioned sage, salt or clear running water. My favorites for cleansing my new crystals. I am a rock lover, and like to experiment with using rocks to help me with certain things. Always have believed in the ability of rocks, especially crystals, to help one achieve goals, bring one luck, etc.

Another way to cleanse one's space, is to pray or speak to your Guardian Angel or guardian spirits, and to actually clean your house, and have your guardians help you to clean it spiritually while you clean it physically. I have done this before, and the results are uncanny!

Physical cleansing is always a good start, whether it's taking a shower or cleaning house. If done with intent, this is often enough. I like to take a shower and visualize any negativity being washed down the drain with the water.
You can also add herbs to your cleaning water magickal purposes.
"Floor washes" are really common in some areas - not just for spiritual cleasing, but to achieve certain goals (for example, store owners who put herbs in their floor wash to attract customers.)

Thorn, what sort of herbs do you think one should add to the floor washes to help keep peace in the family?

Depending on the source of conflict - I'd use something to bring calm and happiness, like chamomile. Citrus is good for happines - orange rather than lemon, I'd think. There are herbs that can be used specifically to bring people together, but I'd need to do a little research for that, I can't think of any off the top of my head.

My girlfriend and I were talking about herbs and how you can use them to do a spiritual cleaning as well as a physical one, when she mentioned that she thought it would be a good idea to use rocks too! I never would have thought of that? ;D

I just need to make contact with my Guardian Angel or Spirit and I'll be well away, I might even get to like doing the housework eh?? My Mum wanted me to get the local Priest round to bless the house when we moved in, not that we think there's any nasties there, but I never got round to it, and now 16 months down the line I think it's a bit late
