Yes, rocks are alive to me too! You are really lucky to be working with them, Stoneknights. I am sort of a rock hound too. Although I get a lot of my rocks already polished for me. I don't have the equiptment at home to polish them with, otherwise I would be doing a lot more hunting myself. ;D YOU CAN BUY A CHEEAP ROCK TUMBLER AT ANY TOYSRUS OR KID STOE FOR THE SCEINTIFIC SECTION REALLY!!!!CHEAPO AND FUN STONE AND ROCKS ARE MY CALLIN KIDDO I FEEL ITS ALIVE!!!! sSkKs ;D

Maybe I will go and get one then. I feel that the stones are alive as well. In that way, I agree with the Native American Indians. They call the rocks their grandfathers, and feel that they have life as well. ;D

Does any one know if what I have heard about silicon being a form of quartz crystal being true? I have heard this, and then thought about the memory chips that they use to make computer's memory chips. And I thought of the healing power that quartz crystals are said to have, and went hmmmm. I wonder. So, does any one know if silicon is a form of quartz?

Silicon is an element - #14 on the Periodic table. It's the 2nd most common element in the Earth's crust.
Quartz is Silicon dioxide. So technically, quartz is a type of silicon, not vice versa.
Feldspar, amethyst (actually a type of quartz), and many other stones are also silicon based.

Thanks for clarifying that for me Thorn. So, quartz crystals are a form of silicon then. I wonder if they can hold memory of some form the way silicon does? It makes me wonder, LOL. ;D

You could try some experiments to find out. I'd be interested in the results
Remember though, there are a lot of stones that contain silicon, and they have vastly different "metaphysical" properties - some related to their physical properties and some not. If any stone was going to be related to memory retention, I'd guess clear quartz would be. But that guess isn't based so much on what I know of it's chemical make up, but because of what I know about it's other uses.
As I understand it (and I've got no way to back this up) silicon is used in computer chips because it is readily available and holds an electric charge, or at least responds appropriately to electricity in some way. It's a very physical thing. Of course, that doesn't mean sympathetic magic isn't possible.

Yeah, I have always used different forms of quartz for different things in my life. Whether it be protection, or healing. Or even manifestation of a goal. I find it works great for me. I call my rocks my "Dumbo feathers". Dumbo could fly without his little feather, he just didn't know it. That is the way I feel about my rocks too. I just love them though, and have always had them around and used them for different magical reasons.

"Dumbo feathers!" I really like that. It's a great description of a focus.
While I believe that certain things, like stones and herbs, have inherent properties that can enhance magical working, I also believe that the same things can be done without them, if one is able to focus one's will sufficiently. So, I'd guess in my worldview these foci are more like crutches than like Dumbo's feather - they actually do help you walk, but the goal is to get to the point where you can get around without them. Without the negative connotation of "crutch" though: there are some people who will always need a crutch (or cane or wheel chair) to be mobile, others who can use them while needed and then discard them.

I agree with that, Thorn. It makes perfect sense.
