I have been using rocks and crystals to help get me through life on a magickal note for a very long, long time. I used to know what so many of them were good for, and so many names of different rocks and crystals, when I managed a holtistic healing center, where we sold a lot of rocks. I had a medicine bag that I used to wear around my neck for good luck, or to ward off negativity, and rocks were some of the things that I used to put into it.
Do any of you have any experience with rocks or crystals that you would like to share. I have a very funny experience that happened to my son because of a crystal. My son Mickael came home to me one day and told me that he had gone to his friends house and wished on a "magic crystal rock" while he was there. His friend had a rock collection, and Mickael just decided that one particular crystal was magickal. So he made a wish on it. When I asked him what he wished for, he replied simply "to fart more". Ha ha ha! You can imagine my surprise when he told me that! But he was only about 6 years old, so I guess that might be a logical wish for a little boy, eh? I laughed my ass off. Since then, though, he has basically been able to fart at will, ha ha ha! Wishing on the "magic crystal rock" actually worked for him, LOL! ;D

OMG! That's so cute! I wonder which stones are best for fart-magick? Maybe a brown jasper... I love rocks and minerals. I've got a pretty good collection and I use them almost as much as I do herbs. I'm just attracted to anything directly from nature, I guess. There are few things more comforting that meditating with rose quartz. Or simply holding a piece over your heart chakra and taking several deep breaths. (Depressed people - take note!)

My older brother had a "guru" of sorts when we were much younger. She was very into the use of crystals. One day they had a falling out and he came home a little freaked out over something they had done at her place. He gave me a quartz crystal cluster that they used, saying if I could clean it, I could have it.
To this day I don't know what they did, but I still have that cluster. (He's long since dismissed "all that magic crap.") I buried it for a while, then did the salt water and moon light thing and it was fine. Of course, he was doing a lot of drugs at the time, so whatever it was that freaked him out could have had nothing to do with the crystal at all.
Got me started on my collection, anyway.

I had a rather large rock collection too, until I moved to my Grandma's. She found the box with all of my rocks in it and promptly misplaced it! I haven't seen it for 10 years now. I think that her husband, who I found out really didn't like me, threw it away. That was a lot of money that got thrown away, trust me. I even had a huge citrine sphere I used to use in meditation! It was worth about $250 alone! I can't believe that anyone would be sooooo crappy to someone else that they would even throw their rock collection away, but it happened to me! Damn it!

LOL at you guys! I wanted to tell you that I agree with the meditation with the rose quartz. I have used that rock for years for heart chakra healing. I have a medium rose quartz natural rock that I use to this day. I really miss the big rocks that I used to work around though. I would always feel so floaty and light working around all of the crystals.

Amethyst is good for purification of one's energy/aura. If you work with amethyst, you can meditate, and visualize your energy being transformed into calm and peace while you hold it or have it on your body. Amethyst is also good for cleansing other rocks/crystals. Get part of a cluster of amethyst and put your other smaller rocks/crystals on it for a few days to cleanse it of any negativity and to rejuvenate it. Citrine, is amethyst that has transformed itself by natural earths energy into a golden color. Sometimes you can even find ametrine, which is purple amethyst transforming itself into golden citrine with the earths natural radiation. That is a truly magical rock. I love ametrine.

Black stones are used for protective reasons. Or to keep ones emotions closer to the earth. I used to have a big black piece of shiny lava that I used to absorb negative energy, in whatever form it would manifest, from me and my home. I blessed it and asked it to serve it's purpose of deflecting and cleansing any negative energy/thoughts from any source. I really felt that it absorbed a lot of the emotional pain that I was going through. I bought it right after the repressed memories about the child abuse I went through started coming back. To think that you had a normal childhood, and then to start having horrid memories of abuse come flooding in, isn't the most comforting of all experiences.
Needless to say, I went to see a counselor. I got a really good one, she was into holistic forms of healing. She told me that she thought the rock was a good idea for relieving the grief and shock I was going through. Sure enough, it seemed to help. I would hold it while I was crying going through the shock of finding out that I had forgotten half of my childhood. Learning that my Parents didn't really love me, rather it seemed that my adopted mother hated me, and my adopted father loved me like a pedophile would love their pick of the moment, hurt like a son of a b**ch!

A regular quartz crystal is my favorite rock to work with. One can put whatever one wants to into the crystal, and the crystal's energy will help one to achieve one's goals. Which reminds me, I need to start working with my rocks again. After all, silicone is a form of crystal, and look at how well it holds the memory in the computers. Any one know any good books about rocks and crystals? My books are packed away, and when I finally unpack them I will post some of the books that I have.

You can also make rock tinctures, where you clean the rock off and soak it in water overnight. Then you just drink the water, which has absorbed the healing powers of the crystal, at least that is what one of my books teaches. I have tried it for depression before, but didn't stick with it long enough to know if it actually works or not.

Iron pirite/fools gold, is supposed to be good for remembering one's dreams. You take a small piece of it and put it somewhere close to your head, and it helps you to not only have more vivid dreams, but to also remember your dreams easier when you wake up. I have tried this, and it actually does seem to help a little bit.

Yes, rocks are alive to me too! You are really lucky to be working with them, Stoneknights. I am sort of a rock hound too. Although I get a lot of my rocks already polished for me. I don't have the equiptment at home to polish them with, otherwise I would be doing a lot more hunting myself. ;D
