The Seasoned Cinderella

There was once an old woman,
Whom whilst in her youth
Tried on so many shoes*
She didn't know what to do!

There were high heels, sandals,
And penny loafers galore.
Some moccasins she couldn't get off once on,
Others ran THEMSELVES right out the door!

You see that "Cinderella Complex"
Had reared it's ugly head,
And for the right shoe* she waited
Until she was nearly dead!

Then out shopping she spotted
the most perfect cowboy boots!
And wanted so much to have them,
But couldn't come up with the loot!

Then one magickal blue moon,
she dreamed she found her missing slipper.
But mirages never last,
So it immediately ditched her!

Then one desperate lonely night
Her fairy Godmother appeared.
And said,"Put the past behind you,
and wipe away those tears".

"You don't need glass slippers!
They'll shatter any way.
We'll find you something practical,
to get you through each day."

Finally, she did settle
For beat up high-top tennis shoes*.
And consequently ended up
Daily beating off the blues.

So the moral of the story is-
If the shoe* fits, wear it!
But if it doesn't, oh well...
Better grin and BARE it!

I enjoyed reading all your poems Summer, Bobairy, and Marilyn. You're very gifted. I'm just wondering if you'd be open to the idea of putting some of them to music. If you agree we'll negotiate any revenue the songs may generate. I have about two CDs worth of music with no words yet and these contain just some of the themes I've been looking for. The darker ones especially. I like creating scary things in song and film because just like when I was a kid, the horror films made me feel comfortable when I found out the fear was just an illusion. That's hard to explain other than so say that the scarier the safer.

Here's a song I'm working on and I apologize if I've posted it elsewhere on here because I'm getting deja vu like I have. Anyway it's basically about what happens if you were out wandering around one morning at about 2:00 am and what you thought was the sun rising too early and what could be the cause of that. It's also about existentiallism and staying "in the moment":

False dawn
Your hope gets dashed in endless days

Too early in the morning for the sun to ever rise
A glow in the east like a rip into the midnight sky
No sound I could hear now or wind blown into my face
The heat is melting and leaving ground without a trace

So wrong
They knew all along what could be done
The cat's out of the bag
No will left to resist
Never thought it'd come to this

A prophet once told me
To live in the moment
Time don't exist
In the here an now
Shed all your worries
About what might happen
They're all just lies
And things you imagine
Repeating the past
Is just a big mistake
Expecting new results
Is sheer insanity
But If you try....
You'll see the truth before your very eyes

Time is spinning and trains are running upside down
For those left remaining it's time to get the hell outta town
Can never go back now and do it all over again
Better just stay here and see what happens when it ends

That's a really intense song, Thorquest. I would really enjoy hearing it once you have it put to music. Hopefully we can find a way to work that out. Knowing you, there will be a way!

That song really echoes how I feel some days as I have been sick with an unknown illnesses for about 13 years now, which is a very frustrating thing to go through. If I ever have to hear another doctor tell me that it is only "stress" again I just might scream, LOL! Luckily, I found an allergist that I really like who is making some headway, so at least I now know why I feel like crap almost constantly. So many days I have been so depressed because I have been thinking that it "is only stress" and doing my best to de-stess in hopes to finally feel better, only to find out I have been really allergic to the mold growing in the walls of the house I have been living in for the past 17 years! So now I am in the progress of moving elsewhere in hopes that will help me to feel somewhat better. No one really knows the HUGE blessing they have if they feel basically healthy every day until they lose that, like I have! What would I give to be able to move like a physically healthy person again?!!! Anyone who still has their health is truly blessed in my opinion.

This is a poem I wrote after having a profound dream about my Mother when I was 33. I have not cried that she died when I was only 3 since I had that dream, as it somehow healed the hurt in my heart.

My Guardian Angel Mother

As a small child, with Grandma far away,
There was no shoulder to cry on
But yours...my Guardian Angel Mother.

Countless nights of praying, on tear soaked pillowcases
Feeling pains of welts and bruises
ALONE, but with you...my Guardian Angel Mother.

Softly you would come and whisper in my ear
"Don't worry, everything will be alright."
Soothing waves covering fear...my Guardian Angel Mother

Thirty years since you left, I have children of my own.
Love and defend them I do-as did you,
My Guardian Angel Mother.

What a friend (A Song I Wrote)

I never thought I'd meet a man like you
with a heart so pure and a love so true.
You once showed me you loved me so.
What a fool I was to let you go.

So instead I'm still wearing another man's ring.
If only I had known, if only I had seen...
That you were the one that was meant for me,
I'd have let him go, somehow made him leave.

But day and night I see your face;
No one could ever take your place;
In our hearts we've found a love so true...
What a friend I've found in you.
Oh what a friend I've found in you.

It was a twist of fate that brought you to me.
And what a cruel lesson it turned out to be.
But I want you to know that I realize
Fate has also been quite kind.

Oh how often it is when two lives meet,
One's already taken so the other feels beat.
It's no wonder you didn't show me all of you,
After all, what else could you do?

Oh woe is me! What have I done?!!
I let go of love, you're the only one.
Maybe in another time or reality,

Damn Those Zucchini Men

Damn those Zucchini Men!
They're forever causing trouble.
If you think they're going to love you
That only makes it DOUBLE.

Be wary when you meet one,
And this is how you'll know:
They are physically transparent
While they absorb your glow.

They live to fill their OWN needs.
They never think of yours.
And every time you turn around
They're out screwing whores.

The anima and animus,
Something to think upon.
If you're wishing to meet yours
Know they'll be forever gone.

For women think one way
And men think another.
Women love to give and give,
Some men, they just don't bother.

Should you find yourself falling in love with
One of those "Damned Zucchini Men",
Better go out to the garden-PICK ONE,
And never think of him again!

The Depth of Love

The love that my heart has to give,
So immense, and vast and deep.
There is no way to express it-
In thoughts alone it is complete.

There is no man whose mind yet sees,
My hearts treasure that I yearn to give.
For if one gets a shimmering glimpse,
They turn away, afraid of it.

Because the depths within my mind,
Have secrets few could ever know.
My heart and I wander through the years,
Searching for one seeking Love alone.

Ah, to share this love so vast and deep,
Within two hearts that beat the same.
And join the minds between two souls,
Entwining again, and yet again.

Heart, body, mind and soul-
To share with one another.
The bliss of it so wonderful,
Rarely shall it be uncovered.

The Ancients say:

Be not afraid to share your love,
Within another heart so deep.
For if you truly share your all-

Thanks to Grandmother

Trickle, trickle, drip
come the memories
of hazy, lazy days
at Grandmother's house.

Sweet and mellow
Grandmother's voice
carries me through pages
of fairy stories and
evenings of enchantment.

Moonlight talks & walks
through softly swaying meadows
on warm summer grass,
Grandmother's hand
entwined with mine.

Open, caring words
meanings understood
lodged deeply in my heart
never to be
forgotten.

All these cherished memories
come to me now
to lighten the load
I carry with me...
