Hi Everyone, My name is Marilyn and I am from New York City. I’m first generation Cuban-American and my ancestors were practitioners in Santeria. My mother actively practices and has handed down to me remedies, tips and the intense passion to learn and practice what runs in my blood. My great grandfather and great grandmother on my grandfather’s side were both Santeros in Cuba. They were well known in their little town and helped many people. Out of the 8 children they had, the gift was handed down only to my gradfather- who as a child would see and speak to his spirit guide. My great grandparents were well aware that the gift of healing had no price. In fact, most Santeros in Cuba and witch doctors in Haiti can NOT take money in order to help others. Many live off the kind donations of the individuals they help. Many choose to live in poverty. My very own family lived on a farm- had no education and no wealth excepts for the divine gifts that were bestowed upon them. Unfortunately, Santeria in the US is not how it is in Cuba. Today, I hear many stories of people paying thousands of dollars for "cleansing" to let go of a “hex”. My advice to anyone on this board who has a desperate need or desire they want to fulfill is this: The power of God has no price. The miracles that the Higher Power can perform can only be administered and put in place by Him. Only God can change all things and decide the hand of fate. God sees everything and he will help anyone that seeks him. Anyone who harms will surely pay a heavy price and anyone who is innocent of and undeserving of the negativity that has been thrown upon them will rise up higher than any mountain and see their enemies suffering at their feet. This is through the will and power of GOD. This is the point of Santeria, and magic in general. Magic is here to guide us, but it is not the means to an end. It only enables us to lift us up - but in the end you and the faith you have in God, and yourself, will get you out of any trouble or despair. No santero or witch doctor has this power. Moses parted the seas only through the will of God- by uttering the most powerful spell in existence the- 72 names of God. There is no one and nothing above this Divinity. Please beware of "Santeros", or "Witch Doctors" that claim to have the answer to your problems- for a price. There are some things that are worth fighting for but don't be a fool. There are many fake healers and practitioners out there who view this as a business only and they are not here to help you. Frankly, this is a very touchy subject for me because it waters down and capitalizes on the power and sanctity that Santeria has and rightly deserves. The metaphysical, karmic connection in this universe always sees the seal of truth in each person’s heart and no one will get away with mortal lies. I look forward to speaking with all of you and sharing experiences. Magic is secretive because to share all wealth of information is to lose power- but there are ways to share bits and pieces- enough for other to come to their conclusions and own powerful path to enlightenment. Thank you! Love, Marilyn

Very powerful word, Marilyn. I am thinking about becoming a Priestess of Obatala myself. I think that if I do, I will not charge, rather I will take donations, whatever the people that I do work for can afford to give. But they will have to bring all of the supplies for the rituals with them.

But they will have to bring all of the supplies for the rituals with them. That's great Debbie!! To become a Priestess would be a life-altering experience. There are some things that would obviously be a cost for the client- miscellaneous items needed in rituals- and that's fine for them to provide and be responsible for. I just can't fathom practioners charging thousands of dollars for a remedy. That's not magic- that's capitalism. -Marilyn

Hi Sharita! Hi Marilyn! Welcome!
I just wanted to say I have no problem with a magician charging whatever they feel is fit for services rendered. People have to make a living.
It becomes fuzzier when dealing with healing and religious services. But, you know, medical doctors charge their patients. Do regular priests and rabbis, etc, get paid for performing weddings and funerals? (Don't know, never had either.)
It's tough to determine a fair cost for one's services, but your gifts are of value. You deserve to be fairly compensated. Trading for whatever the person can afford - be that goods, services, or cash - seems the fairest way (but it's still payment.)

I think that every person must do what they feel comfortable with when it comes to the charging of a set fee for magick personally.

Hello friends I'm David but just call me Q, it's easier to type. It's short for Quest which is another of my screen names. It's good to be here and I look forward to reading your topics and contributing to them in some way. I'm not religious at all but I'm spiritual. Not to say that I don't agree with religion, I just haven't found one that doesn't try to control me in some way. Like Bono of U2 puts it "The God I believe in isn't short of cash mister"! I see many familiar names on here from another place so I'm sure this will be an interesting group. I'll keep this short for now but I'm getting internet access at home next week, then I'll be checking this out more.
