Hauntings

I did not see a thread on this, but maybe I'm looking in teh wrong place.

Do you believe in ghosts and hauntings? I do. As most who are members of Planet-Zeppelin know, my very house itself is haunted. Although I do not believe in Poltergeists, and I also do not believe that Spirits can actually harm you. In fact, I believe if a Spirit does not have any good intent towards you, it cannot have any sort of physical contact with you, nor influence events around you with intent to harm you. I also do not believe we can actually see spirits... only sense them (which is more of a true 6th sense than "I see dead people" [as much a fan as I am of M. Night Shyamalan]).

So what are your thoughts?

I am clairvoyant, and that means that I can see spirits. It has been like this for me since I was 5. But I do agree that most people can only sense them.

I have lived in a haunted house before, and you would be surprised what damage a negative spirit can do. I once had a shower door implode on me and my son while we were taking a shower together, (he was about 2), because of an angry spirit. Luckily neither one of us had any more than a couple of scratches. It was such an unheard of happening, that we actually made it into the newspaper, LOL!

We all have our own experiences that we go through, and all have our own perception because of them. No 2 people will ever have the same perspective because what we all live through is too different. I respect your opinion, but have lived through my own different reality.

I would like to disagree with you.

I do believe that spirits can harm directly and or indirectly. In most cases there isn't that Hollywood horror film moment but harm can be done. The most often source of the harm is influencing people the wrong way. A spirit may attach itself to you from childhood and subsequently influence your life for good or bad.

Of course some places and people are more likely to house or be susceptible to spirits than others.

I was extremely sceptical of all of this until about 7 years ago because I was trained in western magic which was my core belief. Western magicians are usually very sceptical of anything to do with mediumism which I believe is a due to more political ideas than hard facts or pragmatism. Isn't godform working a form of trance possession which is what mediums do?

Anyway I have had to rapidly paradigm shift especially when I had to feed the hole which is a Lukumi ceremony.

I believe in spirits having a direct effect on the physical plane, but I've never encountered one. I don't work with spirits in my magickal practice, unless I counted gods and elementals (which, I'm thinking, I just might), so it's never really come up.

By "spirits" here, I'm thinking of incorporeal entities that aren't and never were human.

I'm pretty iffy on whether or not the spirits of the dead hang around. I'd think they'd want to get on with their own issues. I know there are many religions that hold that ancestral spirits can be appealled to for help and guidance, and I can respect that. In my mind, though, it just doesn't mesh with the idea of reincarnation.
