Haven't checked out he link yet (blocked here at work), but I just felt like saying that I never paid much attention to prophecies based on the Mayan calendar. (Or apocalyptic prophecies in general.)
It just occurs to me that the Mayan calendar probably ends in 2012 because the creators didn't think they needed to go further. You know, maybe they figured someone could update it later, as that time approached? Kinda like an ancient Meso-American Y2K bug?

Hi all, Yes I agree Thorn with your thoughts of the Mayans calender they were correct with many things and just stopped at a certain point in the future, why? It still very interesting.

According to other websites I have found (that I can't remember where they are) the planets are all going to be aligned in the year 2012. That may put some gravitational pulls out into the universe that haven't been experienced for thousands of years. We shall see if that is truth one of these days.

Just a bit more skepticism:
That whole anti-climactic "Harmonic convergence" thing back in 1987, when the 5 inner planets lined up, was based on an interpretation of the Mayan calendar, too wasn't it? Weren't we supposed to be living in a new age of peace and harmony and heaven on Earth during the count down to 2012?
So, um, how do they explain George Bush?

Yeah, I am doubtful myself that a peaceful world is coming to us that soon. It will take a long time, and a lot of work before the wars stop. But I wonder if this planetary alignment is really going to happen. I haven't studied up enough on it to know for sure. I would think it it were going to happen that it would cause some problems for Mother Earth because of the gravitational pull it would create?

Apparently nothing much happened physically when the inner 5 lined up in 1987 either. I don't know that adding the outer 4 (oops, that's 3 now... Or 12 if we count all the "dwarf planets." Will the be lining up as well, I wonder?) would make a significant difference, gravitationally.
Probably some serious high and low tides. Maybe even a tsunami or two. More than that? I dunno.
It's happed before, though - every 5000 years or so, as I recall? And there haven't been any cosmically significant disasters here on Earth since the dinosaurs. I wouldn't be too worried.

I am not worried, even though I keep seeing a show on tsunami's possibly hitting the Seattle area on TV. I think that worrying about things like that is just a waste of time.
