The year in white.

The year in white is very important within the priest’s early life. Let me first say that I disliked wearing white prior to joining the religion so white was another sacrifice.

The year is however a period of consolidation and reflection on your new life and your life divination. I work in the commercial area which is full of egos and competition. A year in white at the office was a step too far. As with all of these things you do what you can. Wearing white all the time to work would probably have led to me being sacked. So I went to work in light suits and white shirts and never looked like John Travolta in Saturday night fever. I then came home showered and changed into my whites and stayed in. Possibly because of my strong magical background especially possible to do with the OTO I had strong natural defences but the initiation is heavy and some people have experienced the attention of unwanted psychic entities and definitely heightened sensitivities to crowds etc. The Orisha understand the what needs to be done IMHO so they understand the modern office childcare needs etc.

Touching

The Yoruba re family orientated hence a distinction is made between having family and strangers. The avoidance of touch has to do again with not transferring energy between the delicate Iyawo people who don’t know them. Again as a genuine pagan religion children are encouraged and family is important.



Divination

Anyone can have divination to find out who their tutelary orisha is. I must say that knowing your orisha is a stage but you only get the full picture when fully initiated as most orisha have differing aspects and hence differing correspondences. Again you can go as far as you wish within the religion and no one should place you under pressure to do otherwise. TEH strength of Yoruba divination is you get the full picture including how to sold any problems via the physical dimension and spiritual formulas.

I was reading about that on Orishanet, too and couldn't imagine going a year without human touch and not going literally insane. Not touching strangers makes much more sense. Thanks for the clarification, Pablo.

I wanted to talk about our way of working with the ancestors. We call the ancestors Eggun. From what I can see with my 3rd eye, the Eggun are spirits of the dead are my ancestors physically speaking, and my ancestors in the Santeria religion as well. So I have met many a black ghost wearing white, trust me. And I have never had a bad experience with and of my Eggun at all.

Since I put up my first alter to Eggun, I have noticed that my ancestors seem MUCH closer to me than they ever did before. They are here whenever I call them to me, especially when I need help. Which, I must admit, has been quite a lot this past decade or so.

It seems to me that the ways the Santeria/Lukumi walk with their ancestors is very similar to that of the Native American Indian way of life. I studied a little bit about the Sioux Nation, and they also walk with their deceased ancestors, whom in return give them strength and wisdom. Believe it or not, it can be very handy to have ghosts for friends. It's amazing what they can do to help.
