Does anyone here know much about the Hindu religion? I have always been attracted to it, and would love to learn more.

I will start thinking of questions to ask then. My first one is do Hindu's think that there is one Supreme Being that rules over the other deities? And if so, what is his/her name?

There's something...I'm not sure of the word in English (how foreign do I sound?)..I suppose you could equate it to the Trimurti. IT's is the Triangle of the Creator, Preserver, and Destroyer. Ruling over them all is the supreme force Brahman.

So Hinduism does seem to have this in common with many of the world's other religions then. I had hoped so. I have so much more to learn about it. You may want to check this thread often, as I will be trying to think up questions to ask you. Thanks for responding. ;D

If it's any help, that is my shrine. A bad picture, but it was taken with haste

How beautiful, Ria! We make shrines for the Orisha's in my religion too. They are very beautiful as well. How cool that you are being raised in a household that worships the deities. You probably don't know how lucky you are because you are used to it. Some of us have to wait till we grow up to learn that deities are also a part of God's plan. I should know, I didn't find out until I was in my 30's for sure.

We worship them, same as most Hindu's do. I also go to a temple sometimes, at festivals. But this is really NOTHING compared to the festival shrines we build when we gather together. They are truly grand

I was wondering what deities do you feel you are the closest to? What are their names, and what qualities do they have?

We have a Hindu temple in London and every single square foot of the exterior is carved. I t is a truly wonderful sight. It is the biggest temple in Europe.

India is also on my list of places to go, but England is going to be first. I am not independently wealthy yet, so I feel that I will be very lucky indeed to get to go to England even. ;D
